Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that improve the appearance of the eyelids, reducing the loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper and lower eyelid, removing the excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelid and restoring a more youthful appearance to the eyes and face.
How long does the procedure take?
Blepharoplasty on average takes between 60 to 90 minutes and can be done with local anesthesia in an office setting or with sedation in a surgical suite in South Miami.
How much pain will I have after surgery?
There is not much discomfort after blepharoplasty surgery. You may have mild soreness that is easily controlled with medications.
Will I have scars?
The sutures will be removed by Dr. Gottenger in 3-7 days. Each eyelid scar is very well hidden by a prominent crease in the lid. If lower lid incisions are made through the conjunctiva, there are no visible scars. If lower lid incisions are made through the skin immediately below the lashes, usually the scar is well hidden.
How much time off should I take from work and exercising?
Most people recover after 1 week of the procedure, but you should plan to take one to two weeks off of work, so swelling and bruising can resolve. Exercise should be avoided for about three weeks after surgery.
