Ear surgery, usually known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear, correcting defects in the ear structure that can be present at birth and becomes apparent with development or it can be caused by injury, like torn earlobes deformities.
Ear surgery creates a natural shape, while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face. Correction of even minor deformities can have profound beneï¬ts to appearance. The procedure could be done with local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
How long does otoplasty take to perform?
Otoplasty usually takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete.
Does otoplasty involve much pain?
The ears may throb or ache during the first few days after otoplasty surgery. Medication can help to control any discomfort that patients experience.
Does otoplasty leave scars?
Usually small incisions are made on the back of the ear resulting in a hidden scar.
How soon will I be able to exercise after my otoplasty procedure?
Patients will need to wait at least three weeks after the otoplasty procedure before partaking in strenuous activities and exercise. After surgery patients usually requires using a compression headband.
